Don’t Let Ice Dams Cause Damage To Your Property
Ice dams occur on sloping roofs following snow storms like what
we experienced in the Maryland area this month. They can cause
damage to walls, ceilings, insulation and other areas.
What is an Ice Dam?
An ice dam is a ridge of ice that forms at the edge of a roof
and prevents melting snow (water) from draining off the roof.
If this cycle repeats over several days, the freezing snowmelt
builds up and forms a dam of ice, behind which water ponds. The
trapped water can back up under the roof covering and leak into
the attic or along exterior walls.
Don’t Let Ice Dams Damage Your Home
Ice dams are often the result of inappropriate attic insulation
and ventilation. Gutter Magic can also minimize the risk of
ice damming and damage to gutters.
