After ten years of living in a home without a basement or storage space, this homeowner decided it was time to invest in an expansion that provided the extra utility and comfort they desired. It was important to the homeowner that the look of the addition would feel very cohesive with the rest of the modern house design. By collaborating with a Brothers Services architect on a design that was inspired by a magazine clipping, the expanded space above the garage was custom made to fit the homeowner’s unique needs and aesthetics.
The addition features a comfortable living and entertaining space, a barn-door opening to a workout room, and a storage area with custom-sized shelving units for additional organization. The additional exterior lighting creates a welcoming atmosphere throughout the evening. Each detail of the design – from the size of the exercise room to fit their new machinery to the custom built-in cabinets that display their handmade ship models – was tailor-made for maximum use and enjoyment.
The homeowner commented that the addition now feels like a fun escape within their own home, and described it as a “New York City loft” they get to visit every day. Even the neighbors have raved about how amazing it looks!
